Physio4You FAQs

Physio4You is an established rehabilitation company with three distinct services. Each service is designed to offer expert physiotherapy for a specific group of people, and the therapists working within those services have completed specialist training and have many years of experience in that clinical area.

We do not provide ‘general’ physiotherapy but focus on being the best at what we do. This means that we don’t always say yes to an enquiry, particularly if we don’t think that we can do it well, or if we feel that someone else would be better placed to help. Our approach is to help people return to the activities and interests that matter most to them. This often takes us out of a clinic (“Beyond the Clinic”) and means that we’ll support people all the way through their journey, including into work, activities or interests. We know that this gives the best results, and this approach sets us apart from other physiotherapy services.

Our physio teams predominantly work in the community. This often means at people’s homes, though we also frequently work with people in local leisure centres, parks, shopping centres, workplaces and when returning to their hobbies such as cycling, running or climbing. Ultimately, we’ll go wherever people need us!

Physio4You also has two separate clinic locations: Hertford, which is a specialist Concussion Clinic. Writtle ARU, which is a NeuroPhysio and TraumaPhysio centre, enabling use of a greater range of activities and equipment which includes a clinic room, gym, adaptive sport (basketball and wheelchair skills), electrical muscle stimulation, motion analysis lab, horse grooming, kayaking and other outdoor activities

Yes absolutely! Whilst having a medical report or hospital discharge summary can be useful, you do not need a referral to work with us. Our Physiotherapists are highly experienced and able to assess people without a prior diagnosis or medical referral.

Yes, we do. Our physiotherapy team covers a wide area, including Hertfordshire, London, Buckinghamshire and beyond. We provide expert neurological, trauma, and paediatric physiotherapy across Essex, Bedfordshire, Berkshire, Northamptonshire, Oxfordshire, Dorset, Hampshire and South Wiltshire as well.

We regularly support clients in key locations such as St Albans, Watford, Barnet, Enfield, Harrow, Chelmsford, Luton, Milton Keynes, Reading, Oxford, Northampton, Bournemouth, Southampton, and Salisbury. If you’re unsure whether we cover your area, just get in touch as we’re always happy to advise.

We work with private individuals and for clients during litigation following a referral from a Case Manager or Solicitor. Each of our services helps people with different types of problems, and we’ll sometimes collaborate to support a client with more complex problems.

NeuroPhysio (Neurological): Our NeuroPhysio team predominantly work with clients who have experienced a significant catastrophic injury, such as a brain or spinal cord injury, as well as people who have an acquired condition or neurological diagnosis like a stroke, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, concussion of vestibular disorder.

TraumaPhysio (Orthopaedic): Our TraumaPhysio team works with clients who have complex trauma from accidents or injuries, as well as with people following planned surgery. This includes fractures, amputations, joint replacements, ligament reconstruction and muscle or tendon repairs. Our ‘Limb Loss’ service includes expertise in prosthetic rehabilitation for amputees.

PaedsPhysio (Children): Children need a different approach compared to adults. We work with babies through to young adults who have a range of problems including neurological, neuromuscular, orthopaedic, genetic, developmental or more general problems. Physiotherapists in our Paeds team only work with children.

There are usually three phases to an assessment: discussion, physical assessment and treatment planning. Our approach is very collaborative, which means that the first discussion phase is really important. We will ask what has happened, what has led you to seek treatment and what you’re hoping to get from physiotherapy. Whilst this can feel frustrating for some people, especially if you’ve told lots of people before, it is vital as it tells us what types of tests we need to do and directs the physical assessment to answer the questions that you have. At the end of every assessment we will talk through the findings, discuss some treatment options, provide initial advice or therapy and then agree on a plan that works for you.

Yes, we do. We have worked with case managers and solicitors for nearly twenty years and are very aware of the need for comprehensive reports that establish the client’s problems, the impact that they are having, how they can be addressed, including costed treatment recommendations and highlight equipment or additional assessments that may be required. We receive consistently excellent feedback from case managers and solicitors regarding our assessment and progress reports.

We support both adults and children with a wide range of conditions through our specialist neurological, trauma and paediatric physiotherapy services.

For adults, this includes rehabilitation after traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, stroke, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, vestibular conditions, concussion, and brachial plexus injury. We also work with clients recovering from orthopaedic trauma, such as complex fractures and amputations.

Our paediatric team supports children and young people with neurological, neuromuscular, genetic, developmental, orthopaedic, and general movement challenges. This includes conditions such as cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, developmental delay, hypermobility, and coordination difficulties.

If you’re unsure whether your condition is something we can help with, just ask – we’re happy to offer honest advice and point you in the right direction.

We always aim to start physiotherapy as soon as possible, sometimes even on the same day.

The exact timeframe depends on the type of physiotherapy needed (for example, neurological, paediatric, or trauma rehabilitation) and matching the right clinician to your problem, location and availability. Our team works across areas including Hertfordshire, Essex, London, Buckinghamshire, and surrounding counties, and we’ll always do our best to offer a prompt appointment.

If you need urgent support or have a specific time frame in mind, just let us know. We’ll work with you to get started quickly and at a time that suits you.

Yes, we work with both private clients and case-managed clients.

Many families and individuals access our services privately, while others are referred by case managers as part of a rehabilitation plan during or after litigation. We have extensive experience supporting clients through legal and insurance-funded pathways, and we’re familiar with the reporting and communication standards required.

If you’re working with a case manager, it’s helpful to let us know at the start as this allows us to tailor our approach and ensure all necessary protocols are followed from day one.

At Physio4You, our specialist neurological physiotherapists provide tailored rehabilitation for adults and children living with a wide range of neurological conditions. We support individuals recovering from or managing:

  • Traumatic brain injuries Stroke and Transient Ischaemic Attacks (TIAs)
  • Spinal cord injuries
  • Concussions
  • Functional neurological disorders (FND)
  • Vestibular disorders (e.g., dizziness, balance problems)
  • Peripheral neuropathies and nerve injuries
  • Multiple sclerosis (MS)
  • Parkinson’s disease
  • Cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, and other neuromuscular conditions

Our neuro physiotherapy services are delivered in your home or community across Hertfordshire, London, Essex, Buckinghamshire, and surrounding areas. We focus on improving mobility, strength, coordination, and confidence, helping you or your loved one regain independence and quality of life.

Yes absolutely, our experienced neurological physiotherapists provide specialist stroke rehabilitation in the comfort of your home. We support stroke survivors at all stages of recovery, whether you’re just returning from hospital, adjusting to long-term changes, or looking to regain strength, balance, and confidence in everyday life.

Home-based stroke physiotherapy is tailored to your personal goals and surroundings, making it practical, familiar, and effective. We work closely with families and carers to create structured, progressive therapy plans that focus on mobility, independence, and quality of life.

Our team delivers community-based stroke rehabilitation across Hertfordshire, London (north of the Thames), Essex, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, Dorset, Hampshire, Wiltshire and surrounding areas. If you’re unsure whether we cover your location, just get in touch, we’re always happy to help.

At Physio4You, our NeuroPhysio service provides expert rehabilitation for adults and children living with the effects of acquired or traumatic brain injury. We help clients rebuild strength, coordination, balance, and confidence, whether the injury was recent or happened years ago.

Our specialist neurological physiotherapists create personalised, goal-led therapy plans tailored to each individual’s needs and stage of recovery. This may include support with walking, sitting balance, postural control, upper limb movement, everyday tasks or getting back out into the community. We also help manage fatigue, muscle tone changes, and challenges with movement planning or coordination.

Ultimately the type of physiotherapy outcome is very specific to the person and situation. Our aim is to help each client move forward at their own pace, regain independence, and improve their quality of life.

In many cases, yes, we can help. Our NeuroPhysio team supports individuals with spinal cord injuries to improve mobility, balance, and physical function. However, the impact of a spinal cord injury varies greatly depending on the level and severity of the damage, as well as how much time has passed since the injury occurred.

That’s why we always begin with a comprehensive neurological physiotherapy assessment, taking the time to understand your current abilities, goals, and any limitations. From there, we’ll clearly explain your options, what therapy might involve, and what types of progress may be realistic.

Whether you’re working on transfers, sitting balance, walking, or upper limb control, we create personalised rehabilitation plans that are practical, respectful, and based on your unique presentation.

Yes, we’re very experienced in supporting people with multiple sclerosis and Parkinson’s disease. Physio4You has operated an FES Drop Foot Stimulation clinic in Essex for nearly 15 years, provided Parkinson’s specific exercise programmes (which affect the disease progression) and worked with people with either condition at home or in the community. The problems that people experience with either condition vary tremendously so we take time to understand why people are seeking support and what they’re looking to achieve.

No two sessions are the same, and that’s exactly how it should be! At Physio4You, your neurological physiotherapy session is built entirely around you and what you want to achieve. Whether that’s walking more confidently, getting out into the community, or improving balance and coordination, we tailor every session to your goals.

Our sessions might include a mix of exercise, hands-on therapy, movement training, balance work, technology-assisted rehab, and even sport or adapted physical activities. We believe in making therapy functional, motivating, and meaningful. Whether we’re using muscle stimulation, Saebo splints, a ski erg, a standing frame, or just the space in your home, your time with us will feel purposeful and focused.

We have extensive experience providing physiotherapy to support clients throughout the litigation process and have developed specific processes and protocols to this end. Physio4You recognize the unique role that we have within this context and understand the need for comprehensive assessment and progress reports, timely communication, media recording, an interdisciplinary approach and accurate, costed recommendations. Our approach is collaborative, with the aim of empowering the client to return as closely to who they were before the incident, or to find their new purpose and meaning.

Physio4You’s NeuroPhysio service is well established and growing. We currently cover Herts, Essex, Suffolk, Beds, North London, East London, Dorset, Hampshire and southern Wiltshire. We operate a dedicated Concussion & Vestibular Clinic in Hertford, Herts and have an outpatient facility at Anglia Ruskin University Writtle with extensive facilities.

Physio4You’s neurological physiotherapy service first started in Hertfordshire, and this remains the area with the most extensive coverage. Our NeuroPhysio team has grown significantly, and we also offer community-based neuro rehab in London north of the Thames. Beyond these areas we also provide home visits in Essex, Suffolk, Beds, Dorset, Hampshire and southern Wiltshire.

Yes, absolutely. At Physio4You, we specialise in working with adults and children who have long-term, complex neurological or physical needs. Whether you’re recovering from a brain or spinal injury, managing a lifelong condition like cerebral palsy or multiple sclerosis, or adjusting to changes in mobility, our service is here to support you.

We offer two core strands of physiotherapy:

  • Rehabilitation, where we focus on improving movement, strength, balance, and independence following injury or illness.
  • Ongoing management, where our goal is to maintain function, support long-term health, prevent complications, and help you live well with your condition.

Our experienced team of specialist neurological physiotherapists works with each person to build therapy plans that are tailored, realistic, and empowering.

At PaedsPhysio, we work with children of all ages, from newborn babies and toddlers to teenagers and young adults. Whether your little one is learning to roll, your child needs support with walking, or your teen is recovering from surgery or managing a long-term condition, our physiotherapy is tailored to their age, stage, and goals.

Our team delivers children’s physiotherapy at home, in school, or in the community.

When young people turn 18, we can support a smooth transition into one of Physio4You’s adult services, ensuring continuity of care and ongoing progress.

No, your child doesn’t need a diagnosis to access physiotherapy at PaedsPhysio. We often see children who don’t have a formal diagnosis, but whose parents or carers have simply noticed that something doesn’t seem quite right. Whether that’s delayed milestones, unusual movement patterns, or difficulty keeping up with friends.

Our focus is on supporting your child’s movement, confidence, and independence, not just treating a label. Early intervention can be especially helpful, and you’re always welcome to get in touch if you’re unsure whether your child needs support. We’ll offer honest, professional advice, and if physiotherapy isn’t the right next step, we’ll help guide you in the right direction.

Every baby develops at their own pace, and there’s a wide range of what’s considered typical. Most babies begin sitting steadily between 6 and 9 months, and crawling or bottom-shuffling between 8 and 10 months. Some babies skip crawling altogether though, and that can be completely normal too.

That said, if your baby is approaching 9 months and not yet sitting independently, or over 10 months and not showing signs of moving around, it’s worth seeking some friendly advice. Early support can make a big difference.

At PaedsPhysio, we help babies who might need a little extra encouragement to develop their movement skills. Our team offers play-based, gentle physiotherapy that fits into your baby’s routine and supports progress in a natural, family-friendly way. You don’t need a diagnosis to get in touch and if you’re unsure whether things are progressing as expected just give us a call, we’re happy to help.

Yes, we regularly support children who toe-walk or have flat feet, helping to improve how they move, walk, and feel in their bodies.

Toe-walking can sometimes be part of normal early development, but if it continues beyond age two or is happening consistently, it’s worth getting checked. Flat feet are also very common in young children, but if they’re causing pain, fatigue, or affecting balance and coordination, physiotherapy can help.

We provide a full assessment to understand what’s going on and why, then create a tailored therapy plan that may include stretches, strengthening exercises, hands-on therapy, and advice on footwear or orthotics if needed. We’ll also support you with practical strategies to build strength and improve walking patterns at home or school.

A paediatric physiotherapy session is designed to be friendly, engaging, and all about your child. We start by listening carefully to you and your child, finding out what’s going well, what’s tricky, and what goals are most important to you as a family.

We’ll then observe how your child moves in a natural way, whether that’s crawling, walking, climbing, or sitting, depending on their ability, age and stage. Most of our assessments are woven into play, so while it may look like we’re blowing bubbles or building obstacle courses, we’re also carrying out “sneaky assessments” of strength, coordination, balance, posture and more.

Therapy sessions are always tailored to your child’s needs and interests, using toys, games and activities to build skills, confidence, and independence in a fun, supportive way.

Yes, and it’s a big part of what we do at PaedsPhysio. Our expert Paediatric Physiotherapists have extensive experience supporting children and young people with cerebral palsy and various types of muscular dystrophy, including Duchenne, Becker, congenital and limb-girdle types.

We understand that no two children are the same, and our therapy reflects that. From early head control to walking, transfers, or managing fatigue, we create personalised, family-focused therapy plans to support each child’s goals. Therapy might include play-based exercises, guided movement, postural management, strength-building, or support with equipment like orthotics or walkers. We also work closely with parents, schools and other professionals to ensure a joined-up approach to care.

Yes, absolutely and we encourage it! At PaedsPhysio, we believe that parents and carers are an essential part of the therapy team. Being present during your child’s physiotherapy session not only helps your child feel more at ease, but it also gives you the chance to see how we work, ask questions, and understand the techniques we use.

It’s also a great opportunity to ensure a smooth handover of any exercises or activities we recommend for home, helping to make progress part of everyday life. We’ll always explain things clearly, offer practical tips, and tailor therapy around what works best for your family.

Whether we’re working in your home, at school, or in the community, you’re welcome to be involved. Your insight and support make a big difference to your child’s engagement and success.

Yes, we regularly work with schools, nurseries, and education staff to ensure that children receive joined-up support across all areas of their daily life. Collaboration is key, and we’re always happy to share strategies, provide movement advice, and contribute to EHCPs or education planning where needed. Whether it’s adapting classroom routines, advising on equipment, or helping staff feel confident supporting therapy goals, we see great value in working together to help each child thrive.

You don’t need to bring much at all as our sessions are designed to fit around you and your child. If you have any previous reports, medical letters, or information from other professionals, they can be really helpful in giving us a fuller picture, but they’re not essential.

The best preparation is simply to keep things relaxed and positive. Dress your child in comfortable clothes they can move in, and have a few of their favourite toys or comfort items nearby if you think that would help them feel at ease. We’ll guide everything else and work in a way that feels playful, natural, and at your child’s pace. Above all, just be yourselves. We’ll take the time to get to know you and your child and make sure the session feels friendly and fun from the start.

We offer home-based children’s physiotherapy across a wide area, including Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire, North London, and North-West London. Our friendly PaedsPhysio team provides therapy in the places children feel most comfortable.

We are a growing service, and we’re always working to expand our reach. If you’re based just outside of these areas, it’s still worth getting in touch. We’ll do our best to accommodate your child’s needs or help you find the right support.

To check current availability near you, just give us a call or send us a message, we’re happy to help and always honest about what we can offer.

TraumaPhysio is one of Physio4You’s specialist services, dedicated to providing expert physiotherapy for adults recovering from complex orthopaedic trauma, amputation, or elective surgery. Our team of specialist trauma physiotherapists offers personalised rehabilitation plans that address both physical recovery and the functional impact of injury. We focus on restoring mobility, strength, and confidence through functional, community-based therapy.

We work with individuals on a private basis and also support clients involved in litigation, working closely with case managers and legal teams to ensure clear communication and goal-driven progress. TraumaPhysio operates across Hertfordshire, London (North), Essex, Buckinghamshire, and South Bedfordshire, delivering therapy in your home or local community.

Yes, we do. Our specialist TraumaPhysio service provides expert physiotherapy for adults recovering from orthopaedic surgery or fractures. We’re highly experienced in working with people with complex fractures, including with external fixation, as well as those who have undergone joint replacement or soft tissue repair. Our experienced team offers personalised rehabilitation to help you regain mobility, strength, and confidence.

Complex trauma from serious accidents is our main area of expertise. This often includes multiple complex fractures or amputation, and we have specialist training in this area. Whether you have an external or internal fixation, are a prosthetic user or an amputee without a prosthesis we’re likely to be able to help with your mobility problem.

Mobility is frequently a goal and might include relearning to walk, improving a person’s walking pattern to reduce effort, understanding why someone experiences pain when they walk or improving walking speed. For some people mobility isn’t about ‘walking’ though and we also help to identify suitable methods and adaptive sports to enable anyone to participate.

Trauma physiotherapy is a specialist area of physio that focuses on orthopaedic, amputation and surgical rehabilitation. There is actually often overlap between different physio treatment areas and someone who has had a sports injury resulting in a fracture or surgery (e.g. anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction) would still be seen within our TraumaPhysio service. Many of the techniques and treatment approaches used in both trauma and sports injury physiotherapy are similar too.

If you’re unsure whether you need a trauma or sports physiotherapist, just give us a call. If we can’t help, we’ll likely be able to point you in the right direction.

Yes, at Physio4You, our TraumaPhysio service offers specialised physiotherapy for individuals recovering from limb loss or amputation. Our experienced physiotherapists provide personalised rehabilitation plans, focusing on restoring mobility, strength, and confidence through functional, community-based therapy. We work closely with prosthetic providers and multidisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive support tailored to each individual’s needs.

Whether you’re preparing for amputation, adjusting to a new prosthesis, or seeking to enhance your daily activities, our team is here to help. We offer home-based and community physiotherapy across Hertfordshire, North and East London, Essex, Buckinghamshire, and South Bedfordshire. Our goal is to support you in achieving meaningful, value-based goals and improving your quality of life.

At Physio4You, our TraumaPhysio service specialises in supporting individuals recovering from complex trauma, including multiple injuries, orthopaedic surgeries, fractures, amputations, and following prolonged hospital stays. We bring expert rehabilitation to your home, creating a safe, familiar environment that makes recovery more comfortable and effective.

Our physiotherapists carry out a comprehensive assessment and develop a tailored rehabilitation plan focused on mobility, strength, balance, pain management, and confidence. We use functional, evidence-based therapy which may include the use of technology, guided exercises, mobility training, equipment advice, and support with activities of daily living. We also work closely with other professionals, case managers and families to ensure a joined-up approach.

Yes absolutely! Our trauma physiotherapy service provides home visits in London anywhere north of the Thames. In Essex we have a ‘Trauma & Orthopaedic Clinic’ in Chelmsford based within Anglia Ruskin University as well as a comprehensive domiciliary service.

TraumaPhysio has extensive experience providing rehabilitation within the medico-legal context as part of multidisciplinary teams. Our service is designed to ensure the very best outcomes for our clients, whilst also ensuring that the claims process is fully supported in a comprehensive yet timely manner.

At Physio4You, our TraumaPhysio service uses a wide range of specialist equipment and techniques to support recovery after injury, surgery or complex trauma. The exact tools and exercises we use will depend on your individual needs, goals, and stage of rehabilitation, but everything is designed to restore movement, function, and confidence as safely and effectively as possible.

We may use advanced technologies such as functional electrical muscle stimulation (FES) to activate weak muscles, digital dynamometry to track muscle strength, and motion analysis tools to assess and improve movement patterns. Our strength and conditioning programmes often follow evidence-based periodisation principles, helping you to build strength progressively and safely. We also provide gait retraining, balance work, joint mobility exercises, functional movement training, and support with everyday tasks to help you return to work, hobbies, and daily life.

You can access our services without a referral as a private individual, and we also welcome enquiries from Case Managers or Solicitors on behalf of their client. We unfortunately do not offer treatment via private health insurance providers such as BUPA, AXA or AVIVA.

Safety is always our top priority. At Physio4You, our TraumaPhysio service is delivered by experienced clinicians who are highly trained in managing complex injuries and post-operative recovery. Before starting any therapy, we carry out a comprehensive assessment, taking into account your medical history, current physical ability, environment, and personal goals.

During community-based sessions – whether at home, in a local gym, or outdoor setting – we ensure that all exercises and activities are tailored to your level of function and are progressed gradually. When needed we complete thorough risk assessments to identify and mitigate any associated risks. We bring any equipment needed, check the suitability of the environment, and remain hands-on to guide and support you safely. Our clinicians are confident working around pain, fatigue, mobility aids, and prosthetics, and we adapt every session to minimise risk while maximising impact.

PaedsPhysio FAQs

TraumaPhysio FAQs
